A lot has been going on lately, which explains the lack of updates but also gives me a lot to share this week.
5G News
T-Mobile is “lighting up” 2500 MHz spectrum.

I am interested in what this means since I have seen T-Mobile’s band n41 Standalone 5G for quite a while.
Verizon and AT&T are now routing traffic onto their 5G Core Networks. AT&T band n5 and Verizon band n77 have been observed in different geographic regions of the United States.
5G Training Course
I have finalized a 5G NR Training course, which can still be explicitly tailored to the needs of any group or individual. The topics covered in this training focus on 5G Standalone networks and using Open-source 5G tools to better understand different concepts.
- Introduction to 5G
- NG-RAN
- Air Interface
- 5G Core
- 5G Procedures
- Open-source 5G Install, Configuration, and Analysis
If you’re interested in receiving training, please contact me at nuradio@nuradioconcepts.io for more details or to discuss topics, agendas, learning objectives, etc.
Qualcomm Wireless Academy 5G NSA Certification
I started the Qualcomm 5G NSA track quite a while ago before they even offered the Standalone track. I took the certification exam about 3 weeks ago and found out today that I passed and received my certification! I will be completing the Standalone track as well.

Custom 5G Tools
I have been working on a couple of tools as training aids, and they are generally helpful.
5G FR1 Channel Calculator
I posted the source code for this calculator on my GitHub
https://github.com/Nuradioconcepts/NR_tools/blob/main/fr1_channel_config.py

The intent is to input known channel parameters and calculate the outputs of Resource Block Size, SSB Size, SSB Start frequency, Point A and ssb-Subcarrier offset, Channel Bandwidth, and Carrier Center frequency. You can reference the spreadsheet below to test out some configurations.
This calculator only works for FR1 channels currently since FR2 offsetToPointA and ssb-SubcarrierOffset are calculated differently. I will continue to work on this until the product is more refined.

5G Reselection Calculator
I tried to go the same route of creating a Python Tkinter UI Calculator for this but slowly realized that it was beyond my current skills. So as a fallback, I resorted to Excel and currently have a rough draft of a power based (RSRP) reselection calculator for Intra Frequency, Equal Priority Inter Frequency, High Priority Inter Frequency, and Low Priority Inter Frequency.

The current functionality is very basic. The calculator will highlight whether the Serving Cell and Neighbor Cell measurements utilize Ranking (for Intra- and Equal-Priority Inter-frequency) or Conditions Check (for Lower Priority or Higher Priority Inter-frequency).
All measurement thresholds are also calculated based on the Serving Cell SIB2 values.

Nuradio Concepts Branding
If you haven’t noticed, I have received the branding for Nuradio Concepts. A big shout-out to Danny and his team at Design Cypher, please check them out! I couldn’t be happier with the outcome, and working with them was extremely pleasant.
Here are a few of the designs that they provided me!

What am I listening to?
Podcast: My go-to podcast is usually DarkNet Diaries. A lot of fun stories in the world of cybersecurity. Episode 100 on the NSO Group is very interesting!
Music: I’m still in a slump with new music, but I am looking forward to the new Gatecreeper album, which will be released in May.
